Wheels Through Time takes top honors at Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance

On March 5th, 2023, hundreds of the world’s most exquisite cars and motorcycles gathered at Amelia Island, FL, for the 28th annual Concours d’Elegance. Among the motorcycles shown at the invite-only event, Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum had outstanding representation, with three world-class motorcycles invited to the board track racing category. Popular in the early 1900s, board-track racing was a ruthless and intense sport where riders could reach over 100 mph on high-banked wooden tracks. The motorcycles were built for maximum speed, often without brakes or a clutch.

Of the ten motorcycles displayed in the board track class, the Museum took first place with its 1909 Reading Standard racer and third place with its 1929 Harley-Davidson model DAR. After receiving the awards, museum curator Matt Walksler said he “is very proud to be invited to such a prestigious event and receive such high honors from the Concours community.”

Wheels Through Time is no stranger to the event, having shown multiple motorcycles and cars at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance through the years. The Museum last attended in 2013 with its Veritas car, while the Reading Standard racer last made an appearance at the Concours in 2004. “We’re always excited to receive an invitation to Amelia” Walksler said, beaming “sharing and spreading the story of rare American motorcycles is what we live for.”

As the Museum approaches its 2023 season opener on April 6th, museum staff adorned the two winning motorcycles with trophies and ribbons for visitors to enjoy. The racers have been shined to absolute perfection, and you won’t want to miss seeing these incredible pieces of motorcycle racing history this season at “the museum that runs!”
