Board Track America

The Board Track era of America ran from 1908 to approximately late 1929. There were dozens of track across America that touted high banks and were up to 2 1/2 miles around. However the term “Board Track Racer” also referred to the same version bikes that were raced on dirt tracks.

The board track collection here at Wheels Through Time is considered the finest in the world. Harley Davisons, Indians, and Thor motorcycles prevail the Board Track America Exhibit. Nearly every generation of Harley Davidson racing bike from the 1914-A motor to The one of a kind orange 1930 Harley 750 4 port. Harley Davidson (the dominating Brand) is extremely well represented here at Wheels Through Time.

 Legendary racers such as Jim Davis, Maldwyn Jones, and Joe Petrali likely raced several of the machines with in this exhibit. In addition to Harley Davidson, Indian was also a popular brand in board track racing and is well displayed here at Board Track America which includes the one of a kind factory built special for the infamous Pop Dryer from Indianapolis Indiana. This bike was subsequently owned by Steve McQueen and has been in the Wheels Through Time collection since 1989. Among the unusual brands would be the Thor board track racer model SR. The Thor SR here at Wheels Through Time is likely the only running SR in existence and is run on a nearly daily basis. Another highlight of this exhibit is the pair of original paint pocket valve Harleys, along with the single cylinder serial number one and the famous CA 9  banjo racing engine, Which make lovely pair of Harley machines.
